From June 2011: Film and television historian Douglas Brode (Shooting Stars of the Small Screen) joins Ed for a look at the legacy of Gunsmoke. Topics this segment include how Gunsmoke changed in another fundamental way once the series expanded to an hour in 1961. Whereas the half-hour episodes focused primarily on Matt Dillon and the other core residents of Dodge City, the hour-long episodes focused mostly on the guest stars, such that Gunsmoke essentially became an anthology series with several running characters.   Want to advertise/sponsor our show?
