In this session Roshi Norman Fischer brings the conversation to the acute point of what we lose when reading material in the non-native language of the text. He highlights the double edge of material becoming accessible to wider communities on one hand, and the necessary ‘watering down’ or loss of meaning on the other. Norman reflects on the natural misunderstandings that arise from imperfect translations and how we might reconcile what constitutes understanding at all.
