Wise Women of the Golden Age of Zen

Upaya Zen Center's Dharma Podcast - A podcast by Joan Halifax | Zen Buddhist Teacher Upaya Abbot - Sundays

In this Fall Practice Period Wednesday night Dharma talk, Sensei Monshin discusses women ancestors of the Golden Age of Zen. “Women were practicing zen from the beginning, how is it they did not become a part of the enduring record?” We hear about a few women ancestors including the sole female empress of China, Wu Zetian, and the ways in which her story was tangled with a patriarchal culture and history. Monshin  thoughtfully addresses stories told and untold from both our Zen ancestors and our own cultural histories.
