Welcome to the 100th episode of Urbcast, in which we will talk about: Copenhagen - How to Learn From Mistakes? 🧐 Today it's time to celebrate: the 100th episode of Urbcast. I could not find a better way to celebrate that, than talking to one of my urbanism idols - Mikael Colville-Andersen. The last couple of days at World Urban Forum were..interesting! I would never expect that I will be publishing the round—100th episode of the podcast in such circumstances. The guest of the anniversary episode is Mikael Colville-Andersen - an urbanist and designer from Copenhagen, who started one of the biggest discussions about the urban design of Polish cities in many years. Mikael, who has traveled around the world with his urbanism series - The Life-Sized City - (quite popular in Poland thanks to TVN24 BiS), criticized the obsolete and counter-intuitive design of the center of Katowice, where the World Urban Forum takes place. A huge discussion started with arguments for and against Mikael’s observations. But we need to remember one thing, he does NOT criticize Polish people. He does criticize the old school way of designing our public spaces that is far from being friendly to pedestrians, cyclists, parents with kids' trolleys or people who use a wheelchair or have limited mobility. But he does admire Poland at the same time, and this is exactly how our podcast discussion starts. He is astonished how positive and engaged we are if it comes to adapting many great initiatives including bicycle trends. 'I have many English-speaking followers, but Poland man! they are so awesome!'. The title of the episode is How to Learn From Mistakes discussed on the example of
COPENHAGEN! Yes, even the bike capital had and has its own sins and nonsense (like removing 18 tramway lines). We did mistakes in Polish cities too, but this conversation as well as World Urban Forum that gathered over 22500 people from the whole world is to inspire each other. To learn and discuss! Having said that, I want to invite you to listen to the 100th episode and join the discussion on how can we learn from mistakes we have made in our cities, regardless where they are.
