Warrior Life - A podcast by Warrior Life by Pam Palmater

I can think of no better way to celebrate the accomplishments of Native warriors all over Turtle Island in 2022, than to honour the Cree music icon and activist, Buffy Sainte Marie. Buffy is truly a warrior in heart and spirit. I have admired her art and activism my whole life. She has paved the way for so many of us – especially Native women – in art, music, television, and activism. That’s why I am so excited to share with all of you, a very special show all about artistic legend Buffy Sainte-Marie. Produced by the folks over at PBS, this episode is the latest from their Webby Award-winning podcast American Masters: Creative Spark. Host Joe Skinner sits down with Buffy for an amazing conversation about her story and how she brought the song, “Carry It On,” to life. The episode dives deep into Buffy’s innovative – yet often challenging – music career. From fighting for Indigenous rights and visibility through her work, to speaking out against the Vietnam War with her song “Universal Soldier,” and writing iconic love songs like “Until It’s Time for You to Go,” this episode shows that Buffy has always been ahead of the curve. And, if you like what you hear today, then check out American Masters: Creative Spark, which returns for a brand-new season – showcasing the creative journeys of artists and icons across disciplines – on January 12.
