This episode of Whole Life Healing is part of a foundational series that we will be featuring. Please forgive the inferior sound quality, as this was a recorded conference call. Today, Dr. Alex talks about the one question diagnosis for most everything that’s bad. There is one common thread that connects people from professional athletes to the average Joe: whether or not they take credit, for good or bad things. When professional athletes do post-game interviews or just debrief with their teammates after the game, you can tell that the ones who take credit for their accomplishments during the game do not find as much joy in it as those who don’t take credit for their accomplishments. On the other hand, by nature we are all prone to blaming ourselves for the bad things that we do, and consequently feeling shame, inferiority, or other bad feelings as a result. If we “take credit” for the root issue that caused us to do those things, we will find much less joy than if we place the credit where it belongs. Dr. Alex’s breakthrough moment in his personal faith journey with Jesus occurred when reading the ancient manuscript of Romans chapter 7, which clarifies that sin is a splinter within every person, not the identity of the person. Additionally, the sin within each person causes them to do bad things, so no one can truly take credit for good or bad things. You are made in the image of God, who is good, so you are inherently good, and believing the truth about your identity will lead you away from the path of death and onto the path of life.
