The Madrid Train Bombings

On 11 March 2004 bombs exploded on early-morning commuter trains in the Spanish capital, killing almost 200 people. Another 1,800 people were injured. Three days later, Spain held general elections, in which the ruling Popular Party suffered a surprising defeat.
