Today’s guest is Kayleigh Benoit, founder of fashion athleisure brand BIND London, which offers culturally inclusive headwear to make sports and fitness more accessible for Black women and women of colour. According to Sport England, 40% of women say they are put off by exercise altogether because of fear of judgement and 45% of Black women avoid exercise because of their hair. Kayleigh is on a mission to change that. Despite trying to raise money during a global pandemic, Kayleigh’s Natwest Back Her Business crowdfund campaign was successful and she raised £10,500 with 225 supporters in 35 days. Kayleigh tells us: “if you have an idea, don’t sit on it for too long. Bring it to fruition as soon as possible… don’t let dust settle on it.” This conversation was recorded on 17th June 2020.
