How NOT to Know God (Mixing Theology with Greek Philosophy) (Pt 1) | Guest: Dr. Jeffrey Johnson

Worldview Legacy | The Think Institute - A podcast by The Think Institute

Jeff Johnson wrote one of the most controversial books of 2021, and we’re going to talk about it with him. How do we come to know God? It’s one of the most important questions you can ever ask in life. But not everyone agrees on the answer—even among Christians. The study of knowledge is epistemology, and the study of God is theology. There have been very diverse approaches to both epistemology and theology within the church throughout history, but which approach is best? We're going to get into both epistemology and theology in this episode with Dr. Jeff Johnson.  Johnson is the president and professor of Expository Preaching, Covenant Theology, Ecclesiology, Apologetics at Grace Bible Theological Seminary. He's also the author of the controversial new book, The Failure of Natural Theology, in which he digs into the epistemology and theology of Thomas Aquinas. Johnson says Aquinas, by drawing too heavily from Aristotle, misses the mark.  In this first part of the conversation, Joel Settecase, Prof Khaldoun Sweis and Dr. Johnson discuss the theology of Aquinas, and how his faulty starting point (i.e. human sense experience) led him to a faulty view of God.
