#130: When Does Life Begin?

Yoga Inspiration - A podcast by Kino MacGregor - Thursdays

I am not an expert in constitutional law, but as a woman, I felt a duty to create a dialogue around the recent overturning of Roe vs. Wade and the rights that have been stripped from women in many states across the US.  Not all of us will agree on this topic. It’s a very personal question that really only you can answer yourself.  But, that doesn’t make it any less important to speak on.  The definition of life is the idea of when the soul was created. To many religious groups, life begins at conception. However, not that long ago, there was a time when the mortality rates for unborn babies and newborns were very high. At this time, life didn’t start until a baby was born and took a few breaths.  One of the founding beliefs of the US constitution was the separation of church and state. The equal protection clause of the constitution declares that no state can make a law that reduces the rights of the citizens or deny anyone equal protection of the law.  The overturning of Roe Vs. Wade completely contradicts this constitutional right. Stripping women of the right to birth control or abortion denies them the privilege of being an American and having that equal protection. It’s sending us back in time and undoing years of progress for women’s rights.   Whatever your opinion on this matter, remember to respect everyone’s views, even if they don’t align with yours. And, for the rights of all Americans, let’s start living up to the constitution of our beautiful country!
