It’s a Cardinal kinda week, astrologically speaking. Cardinal, for those who don’t know already, is a “quality,” a way of expression – a style, so to speak. The term is derived from the start of a season, and so, its means initiation, beginnings, leadership, starting, generating. With five planets in Cardinal signs - Cancer, Capricorn and Aries – it’s the sorta week where you really wanna be at the helm, navigating your own ship and calling the shots.

Every now and then, we get a cosmic breather. A pause. A moment of calm, peace and a marked lack of drama. This is one of those times. The most dramatic thing about this week is the proud, warm Leo New Moon – but it’s still a New Moon. New Moons are quieter, more inward times, associated with the planting of new seeds, with gestation, with waiting and patience. Historically, New Moons were a time where tribes stayed away from hunting or any dangerous activity, where they recouped their energies and prepared for the coming month ahead. What are the ways in which you rest recuperate and prepare? And can you match your own energies with the energies of the sign of Leo? Perhaps there’s a self-expressive hobby that’s been waiting for you, a passion you’ve neglected and want pick up again, or something entirely new. Make sure it’s something that makes you feel like the most you that you can be! Leo is all about individuality and being wholly yourself – it’s not about pandering to what anyone else expects of you. And remember – the intentions planted at New Moon have great potential to grow and bloom over the next six months, so when you work your magic with awareness, you have a huge amount of power on your hands. Magic is, after all, simply intent combined with will – and voila! Results!

The other big astro-news is the move of the Sun & Mercury right after this warm New Moon, into the sign of earthy Virgo. Virgo is less about the Self, and more about how you can be of service to the world, about curbing the indulgences of Leo and focusing on routine, health and hard work. Perhaps this is a great time to kick off a detox, or to change some niggling lifestyle habits that have crept up on you. Virgo just adores organisation and planning, so break out those highlighters, grab yourself your calendar, diary or planner and get colour-coding! Marie Kondo is Virgo incarnate, so it’s also a fabulous time to go through your cupboard and de-clutter, giving or throwing away that which doesn’t “spark joy”. The feeling of freshness and space after a good cleanout is incomparable and much less boring than some may think. Whilst Leo loves to accumulate, Virgo loves to minimise, and it makes sense that the excess of one flows into the minimalism of the other! Virgo, as an earth sign, is also about the planet, about greening, living naturally, being closer to a more natural way of life. Is there a beauty or health regime you could prune and swop for more earth-friendly products? Now’s the time to make that change!

And finally, when it comes to love, things seem both sweet as well as exciting with a Venus-Uranus sextile. If you’re single, love could land out of nowhere, bringing with her a feeling of thrill and the unusual, and if attached this could be a moment in time where you and your sweetheart explore new ways to be both together and free.
