It’s a Cardinal kinda week, astrologically speaking. Cardinal, for those who don’t know already, is a “quality,” a way of expression – a style, so to speak. The term is derived from the start of a season, and so, its means initiation, beginnings, leadership, starting, generating. With five planets in Cardinal signs - Cancer, Capricorn and Aries – it’s the sorta week where you really wanna be at the helm, navigating your own ship and calling the shots.

This is a week where Venus-ruled topics are the name of the game. As the planet of love, beauty, harmony, values, and money, we can expect all kinds of ups and downs in these particular areas — a roller-coaster ride, really. Venus is ensconced in the emotional, moody, loving, and nurturing sign of Cancer, so all matters of the heart take on a distinctly Cancerian turn. We’re experiencing a deep desire to emotionally connect to those we love — friend or sweetheart — and we have an ache to be nourished and taken care of, and to take care of others. This is not a Venus sign that’s about adventure, causal relationships, or play-it-cool vibes. If we try to attempt love games now, it may backfire on us.

If you’re single, this can be the week where we experience a deep, soulful connection as lady Venus links up with Neptune, planet of spirituality and unconditional love. They make a gentle, harmonious link to each other and things in love can just flow. For those who have an artistic bent, this can be the type of aspect that flings open your creative doors — you may find yourselves downloading inspiration as if from the heavens above! It’s a great time to break out your paint and easels. Allow yourself to tap into this lovely energy.

However, the roller coaster will come along with a cosmic blessing. Venus will oppose Jupiter in Capricorn, and then Pluto in Capricorn. The Jupiter opposition is one in which we could be pushed to excess – excessive eating, excess sensual pleasure, excessive spending, and excess emotions in relationships. The moodiness of Venus in Cancer gets revved up and may be out of control. We could be presented with a situation in which we have to make a choice, and it’s best that we choose the one that offers the most security and the least drama. Drama is the operative word with the Venus-Pluto opposition, and it could reflect or throw up a situation in which we need to face all the ways in which we could have given our power away for love, for being loved, for affection. This can get messy — and toxic — but it’s also a fantastic opportunity to face our shadow side, take ownership, and make conversation with our demons of abandonment, jealousy, and insecurity. Everyone has a shadow, and it can be an important week to make friends with that part of ourselves. As the great psychologist Carl Jung said: “That which we do not bring to consciousness appears in our loves as fate.” It’s a great week, therefore, to take hold of our unconscious and see what it’s trying to tell us, rather than have to continually deal with toxic drama. Because no one needs that!

As we’re dealing with this, communication-focused Mercury trines Uranus and Jupiter, making for solid insights and brilliant flashes of intuition and big ideas. This helps with the intimal Mars-Saturn square at the start of this week, as we may have an obstacle or two come our way, and need to think creatively. The opposition that Mercury makes to misty Neptune towards the weekend may have us feeling confused, and it’s important we get our facts straight before we make any kind of important decision.
