Apolipoprotein E is a protein involved in the metabolism of fats in the body of mammals. The ApoE4 subtype is the most well known genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. It is also implicated in cardiovascular disease, stroke, Parkinson’s, Lewy body dementia, multiple sclerosis, and other aging-associated diseases.
