E1 - Introduction to Read Between the Wines

I’m Pierre Ferland, the founder and host of Read Between the Wines podcast. If you're here, you agree with me: there is nothing quite like wine. Why? It’s simple. Wine is about people. Wine is about a place. Contrary to what some may believe, wine is uncomplicated. This new podcast seeks to tell the stories of those people and the stories of those iconic places. To call it merely a podcast would be short-sighted. We aspire to become a repository of stories from the wine world. Wine, at its heart, is about stories, yet the industry has become dominated by wine scoring—a practice that leaves many enthusiasts bemused by its complexities while still relying on a single number for their choices. We understand and respect that a high score can help move a few bottles, and we hold no ill will toward wineries that benefit from this. However, from a vintner and winemaker's perspective, we ask a crucial question: what legacy do you wish to leave with your clientele? A numerical rating, or the compelling narrative of your craft? This humble project is dedicated to winemakers, vintners, and all the stakeholders of the wine world. Some episodes will explore winemaking techniques, while others will examine initiatives to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change and everything else too… Everything has been said about wine, but not by me.
