160. How to Stay on Track and Avoid Discouragement When Progress is SLOW with Heather Thomas

Self Care Simplified - A podcast by Megan Dahlman

Quick fixes are always so tempting. But what happens when you want to be wise and avoid the quick fix, but progress feels slow- like really slow? It’s hard to not get discouraged and wonder if you’re making the right choice. The struggle to stay the course gets even more challenging when frustrating health issues threaten to derail everything. My guest today knows all about this. Heather Thomas is a homeschooling mom of 2 that battles with chronic pain and ongoing health issues. And just like so many of us, she allowed her self worth to be tied to how much progress she was making and what she got accomplished in a day. With so many starts and stops, she felt like she wasn’t getting anywhere. Her big breakthrough didn’t happen until she accepted that her journey wasn’t going to be quick, and that was entirely ok. We’re chatting all about her cardio days, her fear of strength training, the comparison game, and how she was able to get off the all-or-nothing roller coaster. The coolest thing is toward the end we talk about what she CAN actually accomplish today...which is so awesome.
