The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Robert Perkinson. An Associate Professor of American Studies at the University of Hawai'i, Dr. Perkinson examines "social and political history, crime and punishment, race and politics, U.S. and world history, and social movements." We'll examine his 2010 publication: Texas Tough: The Rise of America’s Prison Empire. The book examines the state of Texas and it's specific history of caging large numbers of black males and abusing them behind bars. We'll make sure to discuss the homoerotic punishments meted out to black inmates. Unchecked White sadism remains a staple of the US carceral system.
