Dr. Chenjerai Kumanyika visits The Context of White Supremacy. Dr. Kumanyika is an artist, scholar and assistant professor in Clemson University's department of communication studies. He also holds a professorship in the College of Architecture, Art and Humanities. He recently articulated his participation at a Charleston vigil for the victims of the Mother Emanuel A.M.E. church. The congregation was asked to take the hand of the person standing next to him. He was seated next to a White woman and couldn't bring himself to extend a hand. He described being unable to shake the feeling that: "When black people and white people clasped hands in the arena that night, the comfort wouldn't be evenly distributed. The healing wouldn't flow both ways." We're anxious to hear his thoughts on the removal of the Confederate flag as well as how South Carolina has evolved in the month since Charleston shooting.
