The Fasting Highway - A podcast by Graeme Currie - Sundays

Linda Dicker Bio. Height 5’4” (163 cm) SW 253 lbs. (115 kg) CW 197 lbs. (89 kg) GW 133 lbs. (60 kg) Linda is a 58-year-old stay-at-home mom with 8 children. She and her husband live in the US, in rural Virginia. For the past 29 years Linda has used her degree in education to homeschool all of her children through high school, with her youngest graduating this spring. Weight gain has been a struggle for Linda since childhood. As a teen she always felt bigger than her thin friends and began dieting at the age of 15. As an adult, Linda always had a desire to be healthy, and to feed her family a healthy diet, but her love of sugar and her emotional dependence on food often sabotaged her efforts to lose weight. Linda tried multiple diets over the years, a few times losing a substantial amount of weight, only to regain more afterwards. Her weight increased gradually over the years no matter what she tried. Other than weight issues and some back pain, she felt pretty healthy, but about 7 years ago she began to feel pain and numbness in her feet, which turned out to be pre-diabetes and neuropathy. She knew that years of obesity were catching up to her. By 2021, Linda topped 250 lbs. (115 kg) on her 5’4” (163 cm) frame. She knew she had to do something or 300 lbs. would be the next stop. In 2018 Linda came across Dr. Fung online and IF made a lot of sense to her. She began to dabble in fasting with hit-and-miss results. Then in April of 2021 she came across Graeme’s book, The Fasting Highway online and bought it. Something about his story just really resonated with her, and by the end of the book she was ready to commit to IF. Shortly into her weight loss journey, Linda had a setback when Covid nearly took her life.  She spent months in recovery, but in the end learned to value her own health even more. A short time later, a friend gave her the book, Alive! by Dr. Scott Stoll, that gave her a new vision for eating a whole foods diet. Without the sugar and processed foods driving her cravings, Linda was able to use her eating window as an opportunity to refuel her body with the nutrients she needed with a calm self-control that had escaped her before. Although she still doesn’t feel she has all the answers, Linda has begun to make progress on a path she firmly believes she can maintain for the rest of her life.
