Bill J Mc Kinney is from Denver Colorado in the USA and owns a Karate School which he operates at night and is a stay home dad to his three children during the day. In 2019 Bills tells us he was enjoying the best year of health in his life. After climbing a mountain, he suffered a major health scare on the descent down from the summit and was rushed to a local hospital. After a series of tests that didn’t give him many answers, Bill then found that he had some intolerances to certain foods which he explains in detail.  Based on his initial research and learning, Bill found his way to intermittent fasting he then asked some friends that he knew that did IF, for some more information. Three friends referred him to Gin Stephens and her book “Delay Don't Deny”.  He got the audiobook and listened to it, and then immediately also then read Gins other book “Fast Feast Repeat”. He then committed to clean fasting after initially not clean fasting form the start and found it was instantly better. He explains he was then hooked on intermittent fasting. Bills tells us he started IF by doing 18:6 after that point it just naturally shifted to 20:4 over a couple of weeks. The more he fasted the better he felt and he just wanted to keep going He talks candidly about his struggle with weight from a very young age. He tells us how he got started in Karate after been encouraged by his Grandmother who was worried about him being bullied at school. Bill tells us of his love to be active and how his love for exercise evolved with him now teaching karate in his own school. He attributes his Karate training to helping him with mindset around intermittent fasting and adapted to it relatively quickly In our chat, he gives us some great advice around exercise and what we can start doing and as a cook of some note he gives some great tips on simple meals and the importance of colour on our plates. Bill tells us that he started IF weighing 102 Kg -225 pounds 6 months ago with a goal weight of 81 Kg- 180 pounds and is now 75 Kg- 167 pounds His focus now is muscle growth and reducing body fat % by increasing muscle mass. Bill is the founder of the Facebook group Fasted Fitness with Bill J McKinney and he has a genuine passion also for men’s mental health as he tells us about in this episode.
