Episode 52 Karen Finn -Health Blogger and journalist discusses her health journey. Plus Six myths about intermittent fasting debunked.

The Fasting Highway - A podcast by Graeme Currie - Sundays

Health blogger and journalist Karen Finn resides in London in the UK. Karen started her intermittent fasting lifestyle about 2.5 years ago, to try and tackle undesirable menopausal symptoms, including weight gain. Although she had tried other “get healthy” regimens that promised boundless energy and weight loss, nothing delivered a sustainable solution. However, when Gin Stephens’ book, Delay, Don’t Deny, was recommended through a women’s menopause Facebook group, things changed. Karen wanted to lose some extra menopausal weight that had crept up on her, but she was mainly keen to improve her overall health and find more energy. After reading Gin's book and joining her DDD Facebook group, Karen jumped in with a 16:8 and never looked back. Her husband joined her later, which made life much easier. It didn’t take too long for Karen to take off the extra 5kg and stop the weight creep once and for all, but she also noticed some “non-scale victories”, like improved eyesight, lower cholesterol, better sleep, more energy, fewer hay fever symptoms, less puffiness and appetite correction. People also started commenting on her glowing skin and saying that she looked younger. The natural next step was sharing her experience with friends who were curious about IF, especially those experiencing hormonal changes like peri-menopause and menopause. A number of Karen’s female friends have since become IFers themselves. While not wanting to push her IF lifestyle on others, Karen is passionate about sharing her IF story and about debunking the myths around IF through her writing. Her recent blog post “Six Myths About Intermittent Fasting Debunked” was very well received and showed that there’s a need for easy-to-understand and well-researched content on the topic. As a soon-to-be certified health coach, Karen is extremely excited about her plans to support female midlifers with intermittent fasting.
